So I was asked to meet with my bishop, and so I naturally assumed I would be getting a calling so I started to get excited, then I started wondering what my calling would be and the only thing I could think about was that I would get a calling as a teacher. The interesting thing about this assumption was that it would be the calling that would technically make the most sense. Yet I really actually didn't want to be a teacher, which is ironic because that is what I am majoring in. So anyways I went to the meeting with Bishop Myers and I received that calling as Sunday School secretary and I was so excited! So I have also received girls to visit teach (I actually haven't met my companion yet, which is bad on my part) it is getting kind of tough not having a car, its hard to go anywhere.
I'm planning on getting rides from my home teachers as soon as I meet them, and possibly my visiting teachers. I mean only thing I really need help with his getting to church because its always a little difficult to get a ride, so I'm going to try to ask for a ride. I really don't like asking for rides because I feel bad obligating people to help me out but then if I don't then I will not be able to go to church or my mom will have to skip an hour from her ward to drive me there. Anyways I am just working on that.
Well anyways I am doing my best to be a good secretary (did I mention how stoked I was to get this calling, I mean I'm sure being a teacher would be good but I think it would be a little stressful especially since I don't always have a guaranteed ride to church- okay that is a little bit of an excuse, seriously I absolutely admire those who teach classes in church its a big calling and I think it would be a bit stressful). Well so what I got to do for my calling was make a roll for Sunday (I like working with excel spreadsheets they are very interesting and time savers) and then I made a Sunday school schedule with list of when the teachers are teaching. I was told later by Sean Sevy (I think he is in the EQ presidency) that I didn't actually need to make the roll because you can just click a button and get all the information. Well, I guess I should have just assumed that but then I would have had to wait until someone showed me how to get to that and also there are a lot of people who wouldn't be on that list that I later added. Anyways and it was nice doing something that I thought would be very useful. Also I like being in the Sunday school presidency, I think the president Parker Davis will do really great in his calling (especially because he is very positive, which I think is the most important part of doing any job) not only that but he made me feel really good about myself (he is very complimentary) its nice to have a president I really can support but I guess I usually get lucky with that because my Relief Society president Kelli Kitchen was very wonderful as well.
Also it seems like the counselors he picked are really great guys as well, I just recently met the first counselor
Nicholas Andersen but I had seen him quite a while ago at this pioneer day activity when he was helping out putting chairs in the back of trucks (hundreds of chairs and about 15 people helping including my siblings, my mom and I) so it was impressive to me that he would stick around and help out. The second counselor Ryan Rarick gave a really good talk a couple Sundays ago and I really enjoyed his talk, not only that but he mentioned that he liked speaking which rarely ever happens, anyways over all he seems pretty great as well.
Well anyways I like having a calling, because I like being able to help out in whatever little way I can. Also it helps me to meet more people which is always great.
